Stroll Down Main Street

Main Street is only a short walk from the Carriage House so we do this almost every day!  Window shop all the cute boutique stores, stop by the local coffee shop or brewery, grab a bite to eat at great local restaurants and then an ice cream cone.  Park benches line main street if you want to sit back and take it all in.  There's a little something for everyone on Main Street!

Walk to Bass Lake

Walk to Bass Lake from The Carriage House.  A nice 0.9 mile loop trail around Bass Lake is a great place to get out and get some fresh mountain air and enjoy the stunning views of Moses Cone Manor.   Great place for walkers and runners!

Moses Cone Manor

Preserved country estate of Moses Cone, a prosperous textile entrepreneur, conservationist, and philanthropist of the Gilded Age. Its centerpiece is Flat Top Manor, a gleaming white 20-room, 13,000 square foot mansion built in 1901 in the grand Colonial Revival style.  There are 3-4 Park Ranger guided tours of the upper floor on weekends May-October.  There is no charge for the tour but you do have to register with a park Ranger.

Great in-town hike with lovely cascades and waterfalls all along the hike.  The trail is moderately challenging due to rugged terrain of the trail.  The hike is right around 3 miles and takes about two hours with stops along the way.

A few staple outlets stores worth visiting.  J.Crew, Gap, Banana Republic, Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Bass, Gymboree & Carter's Babies & Kids to name a few.  Small compared to most outlet shopping malls, but great for a quick stop in to catch your favorite stores.  Only 1.2 miles from the Carriage House!

Great activity for younger children with a real train ride, petting zoo and small amusement rides.  The train ride is actually on the last narrow gauge engine of the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC) for the history buff in the family!  The Wild West-themed park is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the spring and fall and 7 days a week during the summer.  Check the website link below for exact dates and ticket pricing.
